Top tips for safe use of the Nevolat® pen

Nevolat® pre-filled pens contain 18mg of liraglutide. You can choose doses of 0.6 mg, 1.2 mg, 1.8 mg, 2.4 mg, or 3.0mg.1

The pen is designed to be used with disposable needles, which are not included in the pack.1 Speak to your doctor or nurse to ensure you have the correct needles to use. They will also provide you with a special bin (a ‘sharps’ bin) for safe needle disposal.2

It’s important to use the Nevolat® pen safely, to keep medicine secure, and avoid harming yourself. Here are some top tips to help you safely use the pen:1

Avoid sharing the Nevolat® pen

To avoid potential infection, do not share the pen with other people, even if the needle has been changed1

Always use a new needle

Always use a new needle for each injection to prevent contamination1

Remove the needle after each injection

The needle should be removed after each injection and the pen should be stored without the needle attached. This reduces the risk of contamination, infection, medicine leakage, blocked needles and incorrect dosing1

Keep out of the reach and sight of children

The Nevolat® pen and all medicines should be kept out of the reach and sight of children1

Replace a damaged pen or needle

If you drop your Nevolat® pen, or damage the needle, it should carefully be replaced. If the pen is damaged, do not try to repair the pen or pull it apart1

Avoid needle-stick injuries

Never put the inner needle cap back on the needle, this may result in needle-stick injuries1

Do not wash or lubricate the pen

Do not wash, soak or lubricate the pen, as this can harm it. If cleaning is needed, use a cloth dampened with a mild detergent1

Protect the pen from dust and liquids

Keep the pen away from dust, dirt and all kinds of liquid1

Use within 30 days after first use

The Nevolat® pen can be used for up to 30 days after first use, as long as it is kept below 30˚C1

To store the pen prior to use, refrigerate it (2˚C–8˚C), but do not freeze

The Nevolat® pen should be refrigerated at 2˚C–8˚C but not frozen and stored away from the freezer compartment1

The Nevolat® pen has a 24-month shelf-life

To store the pen prior to use, it should be refrigerated (2˚C–8˚C), but not frozen (or placed near the freezer compartment). Do not use the Nevolat® pen after the expiry date which can be found on the pen label and carton after ‘EXP’. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.1
